There is a long history in classical music of combining good drink, good friends and great music. Much of J. S. Bach’s secular music was premiered at Zimmermannsche Kaffeehaus (Zimmerman’s Coffee Shop) in Leipzig, a meeting place where men and women from the middle class could mingle. We revive the tradition at the stunning Portland Customs House by pairing local brews with short musical interludes.
