Joy Grimes
Joy Grimes is a dynamic violinist, violist and educator in the Boston area. She performs regularly on both modern and period instruments, and has been seen on concert stages throughout the United States, Europe, and Japan in orchestras, solo and chamber recitals.
Joy is a vibrant performer praised by critics for her “virtuosity, colorful ornaments” and her “precision and elegance.” Comfortable with many instruments, and many styles you are as likely to catch Joy in Boston Symphony Hall, as you are jamming in the corner of a Pub at an Irish Traditional Session. Her passion for all styles and music connection with other performers makes her a sought after performer.
Her current endeavors include performing with Handel & Haydn Society, Marsh Chapel Collegium, Ashmont Bach Project, American Baroque Orchestra, Portland Bach experience, Ulster Landing, Symphony New Hampshire, New Bedford Symphony, Heart Soul Voice, and Folk Baroque.
Joy holds degrees from; Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, and Boston University where she completed a Masters and Doctorate in Viola performance under the tutelage of Michelle LaCourse, and Ed Gazouleas. Joy is currently on the faculty at the Suzuki School of Newton.
